Curiosity, a Natural Factor

"Curiosity is a natural factor in every child's experience. This is a perfect avenue to take him into the mastery of reading. Let us see what we can find out from books on Indians, stars, insects, camping, or any other subject that intrigues a child at any age. Read the story and count all the characters spoken of. Read still another story setting orally; then silently find how the story turned out. Many methods may be used to appeal to the curiosity which all children possess."

Conversation Valuable Tool in Learning

"Conversation is a valuable tool in the learning process. Asking questions and participating in family discussions are natural ways to learn self-expression. Not only are word concepts made, but the ability to put words and thoughts into sentences is established. This is the first basic skill essential to reading readiness. Parents should spend some time with the little ones enjoying pleasant and constructive conversation."
